RIP to a great innovator – Steve Jobs

Steve Jobs, an icon, innovator, tech genius died today. Steve Jobs influenced my life in so many ways. I first bought an Apple product in 2008 – the iPhone 3G. I know a late comer. Since using this product I have somewhat evolved into an “Apple fanboy”. His products and vision were designed to perfection.  I then moved over to using Macs and loved their feel and innovation over PC’s.

Here are a few ways he affected my life: I currently own Apple stock, the phone I use is an Apple product, the main computer I use is a MacBook. Unfortunately I am currently injured as a result of a stolen iPad. As a Computer Science grad I am studying iPhone development during my injury. So in summary I’m an investor, tech enthusiast and user of Apple products.

My thoughts and prayers go out to his wife and children. Steve may you rest in peace. I may just get the 4s in your memory :-) @end

Samsung/Google announcement – Oct. 11. 2011

Samsung/Google event scheduled for October, 11th at 11:30 am. Live stream at  youtube.com/android Looking forward to this announcement as I need a new phone soon. My 3G iPhone is in need of an upgrade. The 4S won’t cut it. I need more real estate on my phone from the current 3.5 inches form factor of the iPhone. Thanks Apple you may just have made me a defector with your 4S incremental update.

iPhone 4S vs. the smartphone elite: Galaxy S II, Bionic and Titan

iPhone 4S vs. the smartphone elite: Galaxy S II, Bionic and Titan

Now that we know how the iPhone 4S stacks up against the iPhone 4, let’s take a look at how Apple’s latest smartphone compares to its mightiest competitors on the other major platforms — Android and Windows Phone. In Google’s camp we chose the superlative Samsung Galaxy S II models (focusing on theannounced US variants) along with the Motorola Droid Bionic for its qHD and LTE chops. We then picked the upcoming HTC Titan to bat for Microsoft’s team. RIM’s not included here since it’s still stuck in the junior leagues. We left out the intriguing Nokia N9 because it’s a niche player. Check out the fancy table after the break — the results are pretty clear cut!

iPhone 4S

I may not be too impressed with the iPhone 4S announcement today. However I may not be left with too many choices as per purchasing especially the fact that I am finally getting heads first into iOS development. I am currently using my 3G as my development device, but with the iOS 5 days from being available and my 3G being restricted to only iOS 4.1. A 4S may be on the horizon. I was optimistic with the rumors of a larger screen similar to some droid devices (a slightly larger screen does serve better for reading), but the facts are in the tech spec details. The 4S is a huge improvement over the iPhone 4. Dual processor, 8mp camera, etc. I may just make the purchase on October 14th after all. Read the iPhone comparisons.

Physical Therapy: Week 3

This ends my third week of physical therapy and fifth week post knee arthroscopic surgery. During my sessions my PT added more weight bearing exercises to my routine. She also increased my sets from two to three per exercise. Some more exercises were also added. One of those involved strapping my ankle with a 5 lb weight while lower leg was left hanging over the table while I laid on my stomach. This may have been one of the toughest exercises so far. The weight was kept on for 5 – 10 minutes. On Friday during the last session of the week I was told to do some squats against the wall. Those felt good and I am proud with the progression thus far.

My knee flexibility and strength keeps making improvements. Knee feels way stronger on the bike compared to the previous week. I have been adding gradual resistance while doing the 10 minute bike sessions at home.

This week I’m meeting with my orthopedic doctor and looking forward to receiving some good news. Such as work and pool resume schedule. Fingers crossed.
